Alison started drawing as a horse crazy girl growing up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Although she majored in Chemistry at Kalamazoo College, she studied Art History abroad in Strasbourg, France. While in Europe, she visited as many museums as possible. She wished that someday she could create paintings as beautiful as those she studied. After college she moved to San Diego, California, and later married a man who happened to be an art collector. Once again, she found herself inspired by beautiful paintings. After the birth of their son, she started to draw again, and also started painting.

Alison paints horses, landscapes, and history reimagined. Her love for horses continued into adulthood, and she has owned and ridden horses for many years. Her landscape paintings portray a love for nature and the outdoors. As a chemist, she appreciates the process of glass plate photography. She respects the photographers of the 1800’s who were able to handle flammable and toxic chemicals, often in the field, in order to capture the world they lived in. She enjoys interpreting, in color, old black and white photographs of the West.
